Shirley Dullnig Goodman, 86, of Junction, Texas, passed from this life into the arms of Jesus on Saturday January 14, 2023. Shirley was born on October 2, 1936, to Monroe & Irna Dullnig in Orange Grove, Texas. She graduated from Industrial High School in Vanderbilt, Texas in 1954.
After graduation she went into the workforce and her forte was her amazing secretary skills, and she used these skills in her daily life with her many lists, post-it notes, and labels evident throughout her home. She worked for a department head at the University of Texas and Baylor College of Medicine. She also spent a year managing the grand entry for the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo. For over thirty years, she ran the South Llano River cabins. It was one of her greatest ministries and passions.
In 1966, Shirley married her devoted and adventurous husband, Charley Goodman. She was a multi-gifted, grace filled wife and mother. She had four children: Suzanne, Julianne, Adam, and Amy. She was the matriarch of her family. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren (and many others) knew her as “Gerr”. Her smile was contagious and lit up any room and she always had her lipstick on! She and Charlie had many adventures together. They spent a couple of years living and working in Alaska. She even agreed to let him fly them home on their return. While living in Alaska, they both took dance lessons. And when they got back to Junction, they visited London Hall frequently. She carried the gift of hospitality; always serving others. One of her greatest passions was spending time with her family and close friends. She was a gatherer and the “hostess with the mostest”. If you had the privilege of attending the tacky party, it was sure to be unforgettable. Some of her fondest memories were spent swimming at the river with her kids, grandkids, friends, and anyone that had the honor of renting the cabins. She truly made everyone feel welcome, almost like part of the family. She also loved impromptu kayak trips with friends and Friday nights with the McClellands.
Jesus Christ was the priority in her life. If you knew her, you knew Jesus. She was deeply invested in the Christian community. She loved her prayer group meetings, and was part of the Springs of Life Emmaus Community, and Community Bible Study. She was always willing and ready to be the hands and feet of Christ. She was also civically minded because she cared deeply for the community of Junction. She was a long standing member of The Leti Study Club.
