Rolene Stewart, 92, finished her race on this earth and entered her reward on May 29, 2014, at Hill Country Care Center in Junction.
Rolene Dean Guthrie Stewart was born on the Pepper Ranch southwest of Rocksprings, in Edwards County, on June 27, 1921. She was the third of four children born to John Houston and Lena Ethalyn Griffith Guthrie. She is the granddaughter of early Kimble and Edwards county settlers, Samuel Arthur and Susan Montgomery Griffin Griffith, and Sam Houston and Emma Louisa Clifton Guthrie.
Rolene is preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Perry Guthrie in 2005, and a sister, Emma Sue Guthrie Findley in 2006.
Rolene is survived by her husband of 72 years, Lloyd Wood Stewart five children, Irmadean Martin and husband Buddy of San Marcos, Sherry Welge and husband Henry of Doss, Monica Milton and husband Paul of Temple, Yvonne Novark of San Saba, Michael Stewart and wife Cindy of Palestine 14 grandchildren 30 great grandchildren sister, Samoa Guthrie Pepper of Abilene and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Lloyd and Rolene were married in Junction on October 25, 1941 at the College Street Church of Christ building. They left Junction for a short time while Lloyd was stationed overseas with the Naval Seabees in the Pacific. When he was discharged in December of 1945, they returned to Junction, bought a farm on the main Llano River northwest of town and settled down to raise their family. Lloyd worked for the Texas Highway Department while farming in Junction and Devine and Rolene maintained the home and raised five kids. After Lloyd retired from the Texas Highway Department in 1976, they spent 25 years, midMay to midSeptember in the Gunnison National Forrest as campground hosts and supervisors finally retiring in the fall of 2001.
Rolene taught herself to sew fine clothing and worked for years as a seamstress to the public. She was also active with her children in Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, 4H, and anything else needed. She taught Bible classes for many years.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at the College Street Church of Christ with Michael Stewart and Buddy Martin officiating. Interment will follow in Bear Creek Cemetery. ation will be held 57:00 PM, Tuesday at Kimble Funeral Home.
