Robert "Bob" Newton Winship, III, 87, of Junction, Texas passed from this life on December 17, 2017 at a hospital in San Angelo.
Bob was born April 30, 1930 to Robert Newton Winship, Jr. and Gladys Elizabeth (Holcomb) Winship in Iraan, Texas. He married Shirley Linebarrier on June 27, 1959 in Camden, Arkansas. They were married 58 years. Bob grew up in Gatesville, Texas and spent a lot of time with his brothers at the ranch in Segovia. He attended Reagan High School in Houston, and went to Rice University in Houston, where he played football in the 1949 Cotton Bowl. He was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles, but decided to give medical school a try instead. (Talked into it by his younger brother Dan). Medical School didn't work out so he prospered in the oil field industry. Bob was very involved in his kid's activities and very rarely missed a football or baseball game. He was just like another kid at Christmas, and loved the Texas Hill Country. A published writer, Bob loved to tell stories and entertain guests at his hill country home. And what a great story teller he was.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents. His father passed away in 1942 and his mother in 1998.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Shirley Winship; sons, Rob Winship (Debbie), Steve Winship (Yvette), Dan Winship (Rachel); daughter, Ellen Reeves (Richard); nine grandchildren and one great grandchild. He is also survived by his two younger brothers, Dan and David Winship.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, December 28, 2017 at the First Presbyterian Church in Junction with Rev. Jim and Rev. Laurie Barker officiating. Interment will follow in the Junction City Cemetery.
