Norma Barker

Norma Grace Barker died December 26^th in Bullard, TX at the age of ninety-three. Visitation will be at Kimble Funeral Home in Junction on Thursday December 29^th from 5-7 pm. A graveside service will be held in Junction at 11:00 am, Friday December 30^th with Charles Haygood officiating.

Norma Kirkpatrick was born January 5, 1929, in Mason, Texas to Carl and Eleanor “Nellie” Kirkpatrick. During her early childhood she and her family lived in Katemcy, TX. She later attended school in Junction and high school in Fort Worth, Texas during WWII and graduated from Bertram High School in 1946. After graduation she and her family moved to Austin, TX where she married Joe Barker on May 3, 1947.

Early in their marriage Joe and his brothers Leon and James operated the Texangle Service Station in Junction for several years. Joe later joined his brother Clovis Barker in the grocery business, and they operated Barker’s Food Store in Junction for more than 30 years. Norma was a constant source of love and support during their years in business years and worked regularly at the grocery store while raising three sons. After retiring from the grocery business in 1981 Joe and Norma enjoyed RVing with friends and family and spending summers in New Mexico.

Norma is preceded in death by her husband Joe Barker, her parents, brother Douglas Kirkpatrick, and sisters Betty Koening and Billye Wingett. She is survived by her three sons and their wives Joe and Oralia Barker of Uvalde, Jerry and Joanna Barker of Brady, and Tim and Ellen Barker of Tyler, grandchildren Cody Barker, Jeremy Barker, Sarah Tiprigan, Lauren Monaco, Joshua Barker, and Nathanael Barker and ten great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She left a legacy of love, and commitment to family - particularly to her husband Joe of 75 years.
