Modene Bruns, 95, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on June 7, 2015, at Hill Country Care Center in Junction.
Modene was born on March 13, 1920, in Junction to James Riley Fish and Ruby Bundick Fish. In December 1948, Modene married Murphy G. Bruns of La Grange, Texas and they celebrated 58 years together prior to his passing in 2006. Modene's career began as secretary to Judge M.E. Blackburn, Marvin Blackburn and M.C. Blackburn for a number of years until she went to work at Junction National Bank in 1939 where she retired after 44 years of service in 1986. Modene was a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star and served a term as Grand Worthy Matron. Following Modene and Murphy's retirements, they moved to Tow, Texas, for 19 years before returning to Junction. They traveled across the U.S. visiting 44 states enjoying camping, fishing and friends. Modene also took pleasure in playing any kind of game with family and friends.
Those left to cherish her memory are daughter Sheila D'Spain and husband, Hubert, grandchildren Todd D'Spain and wife, Patti, Darla Rooke and husband, Kenny, and Toby D'Spain; great grandchildren Misty D'Spain, Shane D'Spain and wife, Ashley, Kayla Gregson and husband, Chad, Paige Sullivan and husband, Shan. Modene was blessed with five generations: great-great grandchildren, Jackson D'Spain, Zayden, Zoey and Mia D'Spain, Roan and Holt Gregson, and Hadley and Brennan Sullivan.
Other survivors are four siblings, Frankie Leamons and husband, John, Vernon Jackson and wife, Pam, Dennie Jackson, Donnie Benner and husband, Bill.
Modene is preceded in death by step-father Frank Jackson, sister, Oma Murphy and brother, James Jackson.
Visitation will be at Kimble Funeral home on Wednesday, June 10, 2015, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Services to celebrate Modene's life will be held at the First Baptist Church in Junction, Thursday, June 11, 2015, at 4:00 p.m. with burial to follow in Junction Cemetery. Brother Joe McPhail will officiate in addition to grandson Todd D'Spain.
Pallbearers include Bobby Blackard, Keaton Blackburn, Bryan Booth, Dale Gipson, Linwood Hawkins, Bill Simon and Rob Roy Spiller.
In lieu of flowers, Modene requested memorials be made to the Senior Citizens Center/Meals on Wheels.
