Katherine Massie, 86, passed away Tuesday evening, April 16, 2013, at her residence in Junction.
Katherine was born in Kimble County to Lafay Stapp and May Whitworth Stapp on July 24, 1926. She attended school in Segovia and Junction, graduating from Junction High School in 1943. She later attended Texas Womens University and The University of Texas. She married Carlton Massie on January 20, 1948 and they enjoyed 55 years together until his death in 2003. She was a homemaker, as well as serving as secretary to the JISD superintendent for many years, and later a rancher.
Katherine was a lifelong resident of Junction and Kimble County except for a short time she and Carlton spent in Brownsville in their early marriage. She was a fifth generation Texan, being a great, great granddaughter of Elijah Stapp, one of the signors of the Texas Declaration of Independence. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Junction. She enjoyed walking with her dog, Jake, delivering MealsOnWheels, but especially participating in her lifelong passion, playing bridge. She was an accomplished player, attending many tournaments, and attaining her ACBL Life Master award in 2010.
Katherine was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Lafay Stapp, Jr., and her husband, Carlton.
She is survived by three sons: Bob Walber and his wife, Harriett of Arlington Jim Massie and his wife, Marty of Midland and Scott Massie and his wife, Carla of Junction. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

Memorial services for Katherine will be held 10:00 AM, Saturday, April 20, 2013 at the First Presbyterian Church in Junction with Rev. Jim and Rev. Laurie Barker officiating.
