Junction Karl Owings, 42, of Junction passed from this life on Thursday, May 15, 2014, at San Antonio Military Medical Center.
Karl was born January 14, 1972, in Coffeyville, KS to Carolyn Marie King and Bub Owings. He grew up in Sonora and graduated from Sonora High School in 1991. Karl joined the US Navy after high school and was very proud of his service to his country. After his Navy service he moved to the Chicago area, where he lived until he moved to Junction in 2009.
Karl married Teresa Sudduth on April 24, 2010, on the banks of the South Llano in Junction. He committed himself to her and to her three daughters, and they began their life as a family. Karl was a journeyman plumber employed by Hardin Plumbing. He was a volunteer firefighter with the Junction, London, and Kimble County Rural Fire Departments. He served as vice president of the London VFD since 2013. He served as a basic firefighter through SFFMA with the Junction department since 2009 and held FFT1 through NWCG since 2012. Karl was named Firefighter of the Year from JVFD in 2011.
Karl loved to catch and cook BIG catfish, and he spent many hours fishing the South Llano with family and friends. He was known for his grilling skills, serving up brisket and beans at every opportunity. Karl was a loyal friend to many, always willing to lend a hand when needed. He had a great big heart and usually wore a great big smile.
Karl was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents. He is survived by his wife, Teresa Owings of Junction his son, Jonathan Michael LeRoy Owings of McHenry, IL three daughters, Holly Parsons of Sealy, and Haley and Karly Parsons, both of Junction and two grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Kim Owings of Grapevine his great aunt and uncle, Susie and Larry Maddux of Junction numerous cousins his adopted mom, Cathe Halford of Junction and family and friends all over the world.
Karl will be greatly missed by his coworkers at Hardin Plumbing, who will serve as pallbearers, and his fellow firefighters, who will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family suggests memorials be made to one of the Volunteer Fire Departments that Karl served so faithfully.
ation will be held at Kimble Funeral Home on Monday, May 19, from 68:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at Junction First Baptist Church Tuesday, May 20, at 2:00 PM, with burial following at Junction Cemetery.
