Juanita Joyce Pyles Dunk, 91, of Junction, TX passed from this life Thursday night, May 12, 2022, in Copperas Cove, TX. She was born in Eden, TX on September 22, 1930, to Jesse J. and Jessie Irene Pyles.
Joyce attended school in Eden, graduating from Eden High School in 1948. She continued her education at North Texas State College in Denton, TX, graduating in 1952 with a bachelor’s degree. On June 6, 1953, Joyce married Wilbur Dunk from Junction. They were married for almost 60 years.
Joyce taught English at Junction Junior High School and directed Junior Class Plays and UIL One Act Plays. Two of her plays went to State with one winning the State contest. Many of her students won accolades and awards for their individual performances. She retired from the Junction Independent School district. Joyce was a member of the Leti Study Club. She traveled extensively with her husband in his duties as a Director and President of the National Association of Regional Councils. She enjoyed traveling to Spain to visit her daughter and family missionary work, and to Seattle to see her son and his family. Joyce loved cooking meals and baking custom decorated cakes for her family. She loved to decorate her ranch home with great attention for the holidays. She always cared for numerous “puppies and kitties” on the ranch.
She was a member of First Baptist Church Junction and the Joy Sunday School Class.
Joyce is preceded in death by her husband, parents, and sister, Leta Pyles Conger.
Those left to honor and cherish her memory are her daughter, Debra Speer and husband Kelly of Copperas Cove, TX; son, Duane Dunk and wife Tammy of Holly Lake Ranch, TX; 4 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Visitation at the Kimble Funeral Home will be 5 to 7 PM, Wednesday, May 18. A graveside service will be held at 10 AM, Thursday, May 19 at the Junction City Cemetery with Rev. Steve Myers officiating.
