John Horton, Jr.

John Douglas Horton, Jr. of Onalaska, TX passed away peacefully at home on Monday, June 14, 2021.

John was born March 26, 1957 and raised in Nashville, TN. He enjoyed his early years working on vehicles and mastering his mechanical skills. He moved to Texas with his future wife in January, 1983. John and Debbie Kay Nixon Horton were married on August 25, 1985 and were married for almost 36 years. John and Debbie had Shannon in February, 1986 and Spenser in May, 1989.

He pursued a career as Maintenance Director for Assisted Living and Physical Rehab Centers.

John enjoyed traveling and particularly cruising to Caribbean Islands as well as visiting his family in Tennessee. John enjoyed fishing and found Junction to be a tranquil escape from the city.

His health began declining in early 2017 and he retired in 2019 where he lived the last years of his life with his wife and son on Lake Livingston in Onalaska, TX.

John is preceded in death by his father, John Douglas Horton, Sr. and mother, Barbara Jean Dunn Mercer.

He is survived by his wife Debbie; daughter Shannon Marnae Horton and husband Jeremy; son Spenser Douglas Horton; sisters, Sandra Leah Binkley, Penny Marie Gentry and husband Clinton, Roberta Lynn Ferguson and husband Glenn, Victoria Ann Horton; brothers, Samuel David Horton, Jimmy Wayne Horton and wife Misty, Christopher Earl Mercer and wife Sherry; his stepfather, Robert “Bobby” Mercer, stepmother, Alma Ann Horton; a grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Saturday, June 19, 2021 at the Kimble Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Anthony Ferguson officiating. Interment will follow at Junction City Cemetery.
