John Hernandez Jr. 88 was born June 6, 1933 to Conception and Maria Hernandez in Fulshear Texas. John went to rejoice with the Lord on April 26, 2022 , after a long, heart- breaking period of physical and mental decline inflicted on him by dementia. I could rage against the disease that took him but dementia doesn’t care. Dementia is heartless.
It cruelly and methodically dismantles the mind of the person you love, drawing them into a thickening fog of incomprehension, until the person you once knew is reduced to a phantom in a withered body. It goes on and on, extracting your sorrow one tear at a time, until finally, it is over.
My father touched countless lives with his kindness and selflessness. Even late in his illness he would demonstrate acts of compassion and respect to others. John fought this illness till the end. Throughout this period he continued to be sharp as a tack, and enjoyed strawberry milkshakes, crackers, music and western movies.
John had a true love since he was 11 years old – it was working on the Huggins Ranches. He truly nurtured the land and animals daily for 77 years of his life. One of his favorite ranches was the Cleo Ranch. He would say that is was the perfect ranch. The Huggins Family was always in his heart and soul.
John is survived by his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, sisters, numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends. John was proceeded in death by his parents, his wife Celestina Hernandez, grandson, brothers, sisters and his buddies.
John will truly be missed but his legacy of kindness, compassion to others, fairness and empathy will live on through his love ones. He will rest forever in his perfect place. Rest in peace, Daddy.
