Jerry Neil Brawley, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away on August 14, 2024, at the age of 76 after a courageous battle with cancer and other health issues.
Jerry was born on May 29, 1948, in Brady, McCulloch County, Texas, to Gean Swindell Brawley and Alton Ivy Brawley. He grew up in Junction, Texas, where he graduated from Junction High School. Shortly after, Jerry married the love of his life, Mary Linn Yarbrough, and together they began a life full of adventure and love.
Jerry and Mary Linn spent several years in Port Arthur, Texas, where Jerry worked as a welder. It was during this time that they welcomed their first two sons, Greg and Steven. The family soon moved to west Texas, where Jerry transitioned to a career as a Pipeline X-Ray Technician, and their third child, Alan, was born. Eventually, the family returned to Junction to be closer to loved ones, and it was here that their daughter, Linda, completed their family.
For over 40 years, Jerry found his calling in fence building. As the owner of Brawley Fencing, Jerry and his team constructed many miles of fences throughout Kimble County and beyond. Jerry was a true pioneer in the fencing industry, known for his innovative techniques, particularly in the construction of the first eight-foot-high fences in the Texas Hill Country. His expertise allowed him to build fences in the most rugged terrains of central and west Texas, and his legacy continues through the methods still used by today’s fencing professionals.
In addition to his fencing career, Jerry was deeply passionate about ranching. He spent countless hours checking on livestock and enjoying the natural beauty of the Hill Country, often in the company of his lifelong friend, Tommy Randle, or one of his cherished grandchildren or great-grandchildren. Jerry especially loved taking the kids fishing and hunting, teaching them the importance of connecting with the great outdoors, a lesson he emphasized throughout his life.
Jerry's life was marked by love and dedication to his family. He is survived by his devoted wife of many years, Mary Linn Brawley, and their children: Gregory Scott Brawley and his wife Angie of Fredericksburg; Steven Craig Brawley and Stephanie Stewart of Junction; Linda Jean Brawley Pharr and her husband Christopher of Concan; and daughter-in-law, Janel Stockton Brawley Murff and her husband Shawn of Junction. He also leaves behind nine beloved grandchildren: Meighan Brawley Hines and her husband Christopher, along with their children Corbin, Callen, Adalyn, and Stratton; Trevor Brawley and his wife April, and their children Avery and Olivia; Blair Brawley and Victoria; Levi Brawley; Amanda Brawley; Thomas Lee Brawley and his wife Tori; Aaron
Brawley and his son Cash; Lisa Pharr; and Will Pharr. Jerry is also survived by his sister, Mary Beth Brawley Low, as well as three nieces, two nephews, and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, Alton and Gean Brawley; his brother, Stanley Brawley; his son, James Alan Brawley; his great-grandson, Hunter Alan Brawley; his sister-in-law, Georgia Sykes; and brother-in-law, Allan Low.
A celebration of Jerry’s life will be held on August 17th, with burial at 10 a.m. at Junction Cemetery, followed by a celebration of life service at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to local churches or businesses.
Jerry will be remembered for his pioneering spirit, his love for the outdoors, and the deep affection he had for his family. His legacy lives on through the many lives he touched and the lasting impact he made in his community.
