Eva Jane Lane Mathis (affectionately known as Jane,) went to be with the Lord on February 5, 2018 in San Antonio, Texas while surrounded by loving family. Visitation will be on Thursday, February 8 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Kimble Funeral Home in Junction, TX. Funeral Services will be on Friday, February 9 at 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church of Junction.
Jane was born on June 14, 1936 in Teague, TX to Salyer Lane and Katie (Mayhugh) Lane. She was drum majorette, cheerleader, homecoming queen, and most popular girl in Fort Hancock High School. In January 1955 she was a princess in the Southwestern Sun Carnival pageant in El Paso, Texas. Jane was escorted by Don Mathis in the September 1956 Fabens Cotton Festival. She and Don were married on November 16, 1956 in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Don & Jane recently celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary. Together, they've lived in Fabens, Norton, Canutillo, Sugarland, Morton, Cleburne, San Saba, Fredericksburg, and Junction, Texas.
Jane became a mother in 1962 to Tommy Don, 1974 to Scott, and in 1981 to Melissa. She's been a devoted mother, ensuring her support to her children and grandchildren in numerous events. Jane religiously maintained her beauty and faith in Junction by being both a member of the First United Methodist Church and seeing the same beautician for the past 36 years. Junction is also where she gained innumerable friends while employed at Dairy Queen and through ''playing cards.'' Her pride and joy in life was the family built with Don, and the establishment of family traditions. Jane was a friend to all she met, lived life serving others, and the legacy of her kind spirit will live on in her children and grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her father, Salyer Lane; mother, Katie Mayhugh Lane; sister, Tommie Evans; and brother, Thomas Lane.
Jane is survived by the following: husband, Don Mathis of Junction; brother, Alva Lane & wife Beth of Molalla, Oregon; sister-in-law, Anna Lane of Conroe, Texas; niece, Teri Salls of Albuquerque, New Mexico; niece, Debbie Reed of Spring, TX and in-laws, Gary & Wanda; nephews, Dustin & Cody Mathis and their children, all of Stamford, TX; her children, Tommy and Julie Mathis of Austin, Scott and Melanie Mathis of Karnes City, Melissa and Clay Trojcak of San Angelo; and her grandchildren, Jarrett, Tucker, Casey, Jacey, Ryan, Keely, and soon-to-be Thomas Knox.
