Henrietta Shafer “Henrye” Evans, who passed away on December 9, 2024 was born March 16, 1931 in Pflugerville, Texas to Henry and Alta D. Shafer. The family moved to Rowena where she started school and later moved to San Angelo where her father was employed with the railroad (on which she took a few discounted trips!). She graduated from San Angelo High School class of 1950.
Henrye raised her three sons while working for Taylor Publishing Co. in San Angelo. During this time, she also was a member of a traveling team of a women’s bowling league – she bowled three perfect games.
In 1972, she met and married John Rany (JR) Evans from Fort McKavett.
Having much energy and creative hands, Henrye was an avid quilter and craftsperson; her quilts and paintings were beautiful. During the late 1990’s, she served as treasurer and then president of the Women’s Auxiliary of Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers association, remaining active in it and the Hill Country Chapter of WASGRA until 2020.
She welcomed many new neighbors to the Murr Community and was active in the Murr Church of Christ, College Street Church of Christ in Junction and Cedar Hill Church of Christ in Roosevelt. She also was active in Community Bible Study in Junction. Henrye served as Precinct Election Judge and was the treasurer and Worthy Matron of Fort McKavett Eastern Star #783. She had a love for people and a robust laugh.
Henrye is preceded in death by her parents, Henrye and Alta Shafer; former husband, Lefty Minton; son Randy Minton; and brothers, Marvin Shafer and Lavon Shafer.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, JR Evans; sons, Jerry Minton and Mike Minton; step-children, Perry Evans, Dana White, and Rana Evans; grandchildren, Justin, Heather, Nicole, Jerrod, Brandy, and Cody; step-grandchildren, Nick, Matthew, Courtney, Chad, Samantha, Steven, Mia and Dustin and several great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Thursday, December 12, 2024 at the Murr Church of Christ with Karl Haschke officiating, and rites by the Order of the Eastern Star #783; interment will follow at the Fort McKavett Cemetery.
The family would like to thank Hospice of San Angelo and Menard Manor for their care; please consider a memorial donation in Henrye’s honor.
Services with integrity, pride, and honor are under the direction of Kimble Funeral Home. (325) 446-3076
