David Akers

David King Akers

On March 19, 2019, surrounded by his family, David King Akers, 91, passed away peacefully at his F6 Ranch home in Kimble County, Texas. Dave was born on February 22, 1928 in Cleveland, Ohio to Jeannette H. and Kenneth W. Akers. He graduated from Princeton University in 1950. He went on to Harvard Business School where he met his future wife, Margaret Hardy Farmer while she was attending Wellesley College. He joined the Coast Guard and served as the commanding officer of a patrol boat stationed in Port Isabel, TX. He would travel to the ranch to visit Margaret at every opportunity. Dave and Margaret married on September 11, 1954, and raised their three children on the ranch.

Dave was a rancher and a pecan grower. He found his calling of service to others as an active participant in the prison ministry Kairos, and traveled to Honduras on veterinary medical missions for over 20 years. He served on the Junction School Board for several years. At the ranch, he could fix anything mechanical, barbeque expertly, and make everyone who stopped by feel welcome.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife. He is survived by his brothers, Robert and Bruce, his three children, Carol Akers and husband, Andy Morriss; Ken Akers and wife, Suzanne Akers; and Susan Rendon and husband, George Rendon; six grandchildren, Kathleen Morriss, Julia Woislaw, Carolyn and Kenny Akers, Matthew and Olivia Rendon, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service honoring Dave will be held at 11:00 a.m. on April 13, 2019 at Trinity Episcopal Church in Junction, TX. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to West Texas Rehab's Hospice of San Angelo, 36 E. The Hospice staff brought great comfort to Dave and his family during his last days, and Trinity was Dave and Margaret's spiritual home for their 62 years of married life.
