Robby Robinson passed away on February 11, 2017 in Shannon Hospital in San Angelo, Texas at the age of 90, surrounded by his family.
Visitation will be held on February 16, 2017 from 5-7:00 PM, at Kimble Funeral Home. Private interment will be at the family cemetery on the Robinson ranch located in Kimble County.
Robby was born in Yukon, Oklahoma to Clarence and Helen Robinson. He graduated from St. Thomas High School in Houston, Texas. He married Faye Brett on June 13, 1948, and they were married 63 years before her passing on March 28, 2012.
In 1958, Robby moved his family to the Robinson ranch located in the eastern part of the county. He loved the ranch, and he was a true steward of the land. He survived numerous droughts, screwworms, thirty cent mohair, twenty-five cent calves and many other obstacles. But he still believed that he was blessed to be a cowboy and a rancher.
Robby was active in various organizations that supported agriculture and the ranching industry. He was a member of the Texas Sheep and Goat Raiser's Association, San Antonio Livestock Show and Rodeo, National Cutting Horse Association, Texas Racing Association, Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raiser's Association, Texas Longhorn Association, American Quarter Horse Association, Mohair Council of America and Hill Country Fair Association.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife. He is survived by his three daughters, Polly, Molly and Toby.
"Long Hard Ride"
Takin' care of the cattle, with frost on my saddle
They are watered and well fed tonight
There's a new calf a bawlin', a light snow is fallin'
It has been a long hard ride.
Now I am heading for home where I know it is safe and warm
Chores over and I am satisfied
Sit back, drop the reins, my horse knows the way
After a long hard ride.
Way out here tonight, the stars shine so bright
Lord, what a beautiful land
It is no mystery; it is easy to see this was painted by the Master's hand
And when he calls me home, I will be safe an warm
Chores over and I am satisfied
Sit back, drop the reins, the Lord knows the way
After a long hard ride. Lord, it has been a long hard ride.
