Charles “Charley” Dennis Goodman from Junction, Texas, went to be with the Lord on July 7, 2023 at the age of 87.
He was born to T.C. “Cotton” and Katie Ellis Goodman on June 5, 1936 at “Teacup” area, near London, Texas in Kimble County. He graduated from Ozona High School in 1955, then on to Abilene Christian College for a year, then joined the Navy for 4 years. Then he attended Texas Tech in Lubbock, and then went to work for the Highway Department, and from there to Houston to work as an electrical draftsman and designer.
He met Johnny McClelland while at Texas Tech and they became lifelong friends. Charlie took a job in Pennsylvania and Johnny joined him there, where he taught Johnny electrical drafting and design. He was like a brother to Johnny. While in Houston he met Shirley through a mutual friend, and they were married in September of 1966. Together they raised four children, Suzanne, Julianne, Adam, and Amy, in Pearland, TX.
They left the Houston area in 1983 and made their home in Junction on the South Llano River. Many memories and lifelong friends were made in Junction. He was a strong Christian and part of the choir at the Methodist Church. He also attended 1 Faith Community Church. He was a part of Men’s Redneck Bible Class, Junction Men’s Bible Class, Junction Springs of Life Emmaus, and The Community Bible Study.
He and Shirley loved to travel. One of their big adventures included living and working in Alaska. They went on many travels in their lifetime, too many to count, including Alaska and Germany. Seeing the “Ark Encounter” in Williamstown, KY, was one of their favorite last trips they took together.
Charley had many hobbies, but his all-time favorite thing was flying airplanes. He purchased his first airplane in 1967. He always said, “it’s safer up here in the clouds.” But if you ever had the opportunity to ride with him as a passenger, he sure would make you wonder. He said shortly before his passing that his all-time favorite airborne adventure was flying alone to Alaska.
Charley was one of a kind. He had many talents and a great sense of humor, and he was fearless. He could create almost anything. He loved reading, singing, dancing, motorcycle riding, boating, water skiing, snow skiing, scuba diving, kayaking, drawing. And he taught his kids to do most of those things too. He really loved to have fun and enjoy life. Everything was a canvas. He painted a shark on a kayak, and a US flag on the side of his shop. And never forget “The Alligator” a giant PVC river float that he created and then painted an alligator on both sides. Many wonderful times were spent trying to ride and stand on that South Llano River toy.
