Charles Robert ''Charlie'' Fairchild, 54, passed away at his home in Kerrville on Wednesday, March 22, 2017. Visitation will be held Friday, March 24 at Kimble Funeral Home from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Saturday, March 25, 2017 at the First Baptist Church, Junction at 2:00 P.M. Interment will be at Junction City Cemetery immediately following with honors by the Hill Country Honor Guard.
Charlie was born December 28, 1962, to Ted and Jerrie Fairchild. He was a graduate of Junction High School and was nearing completion of his degree in psychology at Schreiner University, Kerrville.
Charlie was preceded in death by his father, Ted Fairchild and his brother, Duane Fairchild.
He is survived by his mother, Jerrie Ratliff and stepfather, Don Rhamy of Junction; son, Samuel Fairchild of San Antonio; daughters, Dara Valdez of Fort Worth and Christine Fairchild of Brady; son, Jonathan Fairchild of San Antonio. He is also survived by two grandsons, Mateo Valdez and Abel Plumley; and two sisters, Judy Albus of San Angelo and Cheryl Herring of Junction.
Charlie fulfilled his lifetime goal of an Army career and was honorably discharged after more than 17-years of military service in 2003. During his military career, he was primarily assigned to 7th Battalion, 101st Aviation Regiment, B-Company of the 101st Airborne. Charlie led men in combat operations as Crew Chief, 1st Sergeant and Sgt. Maj. in Nicaragua and in Operations Shield, Desert Storm, Iraqi Freedom, and Enduring Freedom. He earned the Bronze Star, two Air Medals, the Meritorious Service Medal along with numerous other awards and decorations. He next served as an expert in Boeing CH-47 helicopter operations and maintenance in Afghanistan. He then returned to Junction, where he was employed by Mooney Aircraft in Kerrville until their closing and Smart Choice Auto in Junction. He then began pursuing a college degree in Psychology at Schreiner University.
