Beryl Jane Henderson of Junction, Texas passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 3rd, 2024. She was born August 8th, 1943 in Refugio Texas to the late James Earnest Jacks and Bessie Beryl Heard Jacks.
Jane was a descendant of the Wells and Heard families that pioneered Texas and the territory before and during the Republic. The Heard’s, came from County Tyrone in Northern Ireland, arriving in Texas during the early 1800’s and later they fought in the Battle of 1812 and the Irish Battalion of the Refugio Volunteers during the Civil War.
Her great, great grandfather, Captain James B. Wells(i.e. Wells County, Texas), served in the Texas Navy and was appointed by General Sam Houston to head the Texas Naval Yard. The two families became one with the marriage of William J. J. Heard and Frances Wells in 1882.
Much of Jane’s childhood was spent in Refugio, Texas. As a tomboy, she loved all sports, participating in activities with her father, and developed a love of music from listening to records with her mother.
After her mother’s passing, Jane attended and graduated from Temple University High School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In school, she participated in cheerleading, band, field hockey, track & field, and student council. After graduation, she attended nursing school and served in the profession.
In 1972, Jane bought a ranch & moved to Junction where she met and married Mike, the love of her life. Early in their courtship, in her daring and whimsical way, Jane once again ‘tested her boundaries’. Off-the-cuff, in front of friends, she said, “Why don’t we get married next week?” To her surprise, Mike called her bluff. August 27, 1978 Jane and Mike were married at Cajac Creek where they continued to live and share a life together for 34 years.
Together Mike and Jane shared their love of Christ through the ministry work of Jesus Hall of Fame. They treasured their time traveling and evangelizing among the Navajo Nation in New Mexico. In Jane’s last days, she was quoted as saying about the Navajo people, “Tell them Thank you; they made life great”.
In her latter years, Jane spent time on the ranch, tending to her garden & chickens, loving on her grandchildren, family, friends, and spending time with her Lord, Jesus.
Jane is preceded in death by her husband Michael E. Henderson, brother James Howard Wells Jacks and her sister Jennifer Sue Jacks Henley.
Jane is survived by her sister Judy Kay Lide and her husband Roderick Lide; daughter Stephanie Sowell and her husband Brett; son Daniel Henderson and his wife Summer; grandchildren Katherine Hathcock, Kiersten McKenzie, Abigail Henderson, Rylie Henderson; great grandchildren Briggs, Rosalie and Grady Hathcock along with numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and Andrew Swenson.
